COLONIZATION IS A CRIME: An Open Letter

This past month has been devastating, to say the least. Trying to gather my thoughts and use my words has been very challenging. So I turned to what I do best, which is to make art, jotting my thoughts down and making graphics. The emotional, mental, physical weight of watching this genocide carry out on my device has been paralyzing and infuriating. Moreover, witnessing how the media and “world leaders” of so-called “developing nations” push forward a narrative that is racist, dehumanizing and attempts to justify the massacre of children and innocent civilians, is beyond deplorable. Genocide can NEVER be justified. EVERY child that suffers inhumane treatment and is un-alived by the hands of those who are FINANCED BY US with OUR tax-dollars and OUR consumption is OUR RESPONSIBILITY.
That’s why I needed to express this:
My heart goes out to the Palestinian community and the people in Gaza who have been under a brutal invasion and occupation for 75+ years.
My heart goes out to the people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo who live an ongoing genocide so the west can exploit and steal their natural resources and subject their people to heinous treatment so we can have electronic devices.
My heart goes out to the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island, to the MMIWG2S, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, among others, who know colonization too well. The Indigenous people of where I come from, the Mapuche, Aymara, Atacameños, Diaguitas, Changos, and all Indigenous groups who have been experiencing this ongoing genocide for 100+ years.
My heart goes out to Sudan, To Tigray, To Haiti, Colombia, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Armenia, and every culture and group of people who are experiencing the violence of colonization, the capitalistic greed of the US, EU, Britain,Israel, who constantly fuel the military industrial complex and their pockets with the blood of innocent people.
My heart goes out to my Black, Indigenous, Brown POCs, Queer, Muslim people who are affected by everything that is happening and are still holding on. This is for everyone who is “feeling their feels” right now and making space for the collective grieving we’re experiencing. This is for everyone who is using their voices and actions to stand up for what they believe in and taking a stance against the oppressor.
I call everyone to use your voices. To boycott and denounce Israel, the US, EU, Canada and Britain. To amplify each other's voices and remember that we are powerful. Collectively we can create change if we believe it can happen! COLONIZATION IS A CRIME! END THE GENOCIDE! END THE OCCUPATION!
LA COLONIZACIÓN ES UN CRIMEN: Una Carta Abierta
El mes pasado ha sido devastador, por decir lo menos. Tratar de ordenar mis pensamientos y usar mis palabras ha sido un gran desafío. Así que me dediqué a hacer lo que mejor hago, que es crear arte, escribir mis pensamientos y hacer gráficos. El peso emocional, mental y físico de ver este genocidio en mi dispositivo electronico ha sido paralizante y desesperante. Además, ser testigo de cómo los medios de comunicación y los “líderes mundiales” de las llamadas “naciones desarrolladas” impulsan una narrativa racista, deshumanizante que intenta justificar la masacre de niños y civiles inocentes, es más que deplorable. El genocidio NUNCA sera justificado. CADA niño que sufre un trato inhumano o es asesinado en las manos de aquellos que son FINANCIADOS POR NOSOTRES con NUESTROS impuestos y NUESTRO consumo es NUESTRA RESPONSABILIDAD.
Por eso necesitaba expresar esto:
Mi corazón está con la comunidad palestina y Gaza que han estado bajo una brutal invasión y ocupación durante más de 75 años.
Mi corazón está con la gente de la República Democrática del Congo que vive un genocidio continuo para que Occidente pueda explotar y robar sus recursos naturales y someter a su gente a un trato atroz para que podamos tener dispositivos electrónicos.
Mi corazón está con los pueblos indígenas de Turtle Island, MMIWG2S, los Mississaugas del Credit, los Anishnabeg, los Chippewa, los Haudenosaunee, entre otros, que conocen demasiado bien la colonización. Los pueblos indígenas de donde vengo, los Mapuche, Aymaras, Atacameños, Diaguitas, Changos y todos los grupos indígenas que han estado viviendo este genocidio continuo durante más de 100 años.
Mi corazón está con Sudán, Tigray, Haití, Colombia, Nepal, Afganistán, Irán, Irak, Armenia y todas las culturas y grupos de personas que están viviendo la violencia de la colonización, la codicia capitalista de Estados Unidos, la UE, Gran Bretaña e Israel, que constantemente alimentan el complejo industrial militar y sus bolsillos con la sangre de gente inocente.
Mi corazón está con las personas de raza negra, indígenas, la gente de color, queer, y musulmanas que se ven afectadas por todo lo que está sucediendo y todavía resisten. Esto es para todos los que están “sintiendo sus sentimientos” en este momento y haciendo espacio para el duelo colectivo que estamos experienciando. Esto es para todos los que usan sus voces y acciones para defender lo que creen y adoptan una postura firme contra el opresor.
Llamo a todos a usar sus voces. Boicotear y denunciar a Israel, Estados Unidos, la UE, Canadá y Gran Bretaña. Para amplificar las voces de los demás y recordar que somos poderosos. ¡Colectivamente podemos crear un cambio si creemos que puede suceder! ¡LA COLONIZACIÓN ES UN CRIMEN! ¡TERMINA CON EL GENOCIDIO! ¡TERMINA CON LA OCUPACIÓN!
